What to Pair with Tie-Dye

Hi, all! Welcome back to Stylishly Good Vibes!

Remember at the beginning of quarantine when everyone was obsessed with making their own tie-dye pieces? I think one of my biggest accomplishments of 2020 thus far was never joining in on that trend.

I didn’t even own any tie-dye prior to this year!

If you know me, you know that I really never wear sweatshirts or sweatpants. They’ve just never been my thing. Some people can pull them off—I’m not one of those people!

However, my mom got me this tie-dye sweatshirt from Eddie Bauer for my birthday and I was excited to make it “me.”

Pairing a tie-dye sweatshirt or top with jeans is basic. I’ll say it! You can hate me all you want, but that’s the truth! Think outside of the box—or better yet, let me think outside the box for you and enjoy this post for inspo on how to elevate your tie-dyed pieces.

I’ve talked about this on the blog before, but I can never say it too many times! Playing with patterns can be intimidating, I get it. But there is nothing to be afraid of! I personally enjoy the style challenge and love sharing my pattern plays with you.

For this particular look, I wanted something that elevated this sweatshirt. By elevate, I mean something that’s a bit fancier than the sweatshirt itself. I knew I wanted to wear a skirt, but wasn’t initially sure about my options.

I picked this Anthro skirt out from my closet and put it up against the tie-dyed sweatshirt. Most of the time, I’m able to visualize whether or not it will work, but this time I couldn’t without physically putting it on. Once I did that, I realized how AWESOME it looked!

The key to making this outfit work is the big and small pattern pairing.

Tie-dye is typically a larger, more spread out pattern. The skirt is a tight, small pattern—opposite of the tie-dye. Opposites attract in this case, and the final look is polished, fun, and bold!

Well, that’s all I’ve got for ya today! I hope that this inspires you to try something other than jeans with your favorite tie-dyed pieces in your closet.

Until next time!
