How to Style an Unexpected Color Combination

Hello, friends! Welcome back to Stylishly Good Vibes! Today’s blog post is all about something I recently came across on Pinterest: unexpected color combinations!

Let me preface this blog post real quick: I’ve been feeling uninspired with my style recently. When I worked at Anthropologie, I was bombarded by inspiration—mostly from the ways that my friends styled their outfits for work.

We all gained inspiration from each other and it created a never-ending cycle! But, now I work in an office and I definitely stick out like a sore thumb with the outfits that I wear. It’s more business casual, I guess, but if you know me, you know my style is anything but boring.

Now that I’m no longer gaining style inspiration from the people that I work with, I’ve had to seek out inspiration elsewhere.

I somehow fell off the Pinterest wagon a couple months back, but I’ve found my way back and I’m so happy I did. I kind of forgot how much fun it is to dive into a wormhole of cool content tailored to your taste.

Creating My Pinterest Look

Anyways, before I get too off track, I wanted to tell you how I came up with this post! I stumbled upon a really cool outfit on Pinterest the other day and felt inspired to recreate it, which seems pretty typical, but hear me out.

The hardest thing about Pinterest is trying to emulate things that you see. Whether it’s a recipe or an outfit, you don’t realize how difficult it actually is to recreate until you try! I can’t tell you how many recipes I’ve found on Pinterest that failed miserably. But, that’s a story for another day!

Since I’ve been trying to be more conscious with my clothing purchases this year, I wanted to recreate my Pinterest-inspired look with items I already have in my closet, and ones that you haven’t seen on the blog yet. A true challenge! I’ve shared almost every piece of my wardrobe on the blog—but these pieces are some of the tokens that haven’t seen the light!

My Take on Personal Style

The thing about unexpected color combinations is that they’re a great way to stand out, and I think that’s what my personal style is all about. I don’t want to blend in with everyone else, and I surely don’t want to shop at the same places as the majority of millennials. So, when I put this outfit together, I wasn’t thinking about what other people would like the most. I was thinking about the kind of outfit that I would like the most.

Who Do You Dress For?

Too often, we subconsciously dress for other people, when we should be dressing for ourselves! So, you may not like this outfit, but that’s totally okay! I’ve started to realize that I don’t want you to copy my outfits. That’s not my intention. I want you to be inspired by my style to then create your own personal style that’s representative of YOU, not me.

Well, that’s all I have for ya today! I hope that you enjoy the weekend! Just think—we’re one weekend closer to summer! Yay!

Until next time!

Alicia
