Finding Your Personal Color Palette

Hi, friends, and welcome back to Stylishly Good Vibes! Today’s blog post is all about how I found my personal color palette, filled with the colors I’ve deemed the best for me! I know what you’re probably thinking — who wants to take the time and effort to curate their entire wardrobe based on a specific color palette. Well, let me tell you . . . it’s much easier than it sounds!

The Origins of My Color Palette

Let me start from the beginning. I’ve worn just about every color on this planet at least once. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but I’ve experimented a lot! As I’ve gotten older and matured in my personal style, I’ve learned what colors elevate my look and overall aesthetic.

As you probably know from reading my blog, pink and purple are my two favorite colors, so obviously my color palette is based off those two! So, how did I build my personal color palette? I started buying things that were in more subdued shades of pink. Once I started to feel comfortable with the array of pinks I had in my wardrobe, I started to branch out into more deep oranges and cedar brown colors. So, basically transitioned to the colors next to pink on the color wheel!

You’ll know that you’ve nailed your personal color palette when friends or family pick something up in a store and automatically think of you when looking at it.

Building Your Personal Color Palette

  1. Color coordinate the clothes that are currently in your closet. Do you notice any themes? Take the most common 2-3 colors and write them on a piece of paper.
  2. Ask yourself, “What is it about these 2-3 colors that I really like?” Whether you try on the pieces in those colors or you simply pull them all out of the closet, figure out why you really like them. This will make it easier to build your palette with those colors as your base.
  3. Next, it’s all about figuring out what colors are NOT part of your personal color palette. For me, this is bright reds and yellows. Those colors look absolutely AWFUL on me.
  4. Take the clothes in those not-so-good colors and move them to one side of your closet. You’re not saying goodbye to them forever just for now!
  5. Finally! The last step! When shopping, look for items in varying shades of your base colors from above. Over time, it will get easier to spot them!

In a way, you almost have to train your eyes to see the colors within your personal color palette. It sounds kind of crazy, but my eyes are immediately drawn to the colors within my palette now. It just takes practice!

Well, that’s all I have for you today! I hope your week is filled with fun and good vibes!

Until next time!

Alicia
