Hello, friends! I apologize for my departure from the blog the past couple weeks. Life has been a little crazy, but the good kind! Leave it to me to leave one of my jobs behind only to fall into another one in the matter of two weeks, but hey — that’s just the way I roll!
For today’s blog post, I wanted to focus on the utility-inspired trends that I’ve been seeing on Instagram and in some of my favorite stores. Let me preface this by saying that I would never consider my style to be utility-inspired. It’s just not what I think of when I try to describe my personal style. I’m much more edgy-femme, I think. But, I’ve been trying to be more adventurous with my personal style, so I’ve been accumulating more utilitarian pieces.

This military jacket was a lucky find at my local Free People. For some reason, it reminded me of My Chemical Romance’s music video for “Welcome to the Black Parade.” Go and watch it now and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Ah, middle school memories!
Any who, this jacket is one of those outlier pieces in my wardrobe that I don’t wear too often, but when I do, I feel like I have to amp up the whole utilitarian look. It’s fitting that I bought these camo-striped jeans at work the other day because they look PERFECT with the jacket.

Funny story about these jeans!! So, basically none of my pants fit me, which is why I keep buying more and more of them. Someone returned these jeans at work the other day and I was initially on the fence about them. But, alas! They fit SO GOOD, so I had to buy them!
Flash forward to the day after I bought the jeans, the customer who returned them came into the store, as I was wearing the pants, and said, “Alicia, aren’t those the pants I just returned?” WHY YES, YES THEY ARE!!!

I know I say a lot of my jeans are comfy, but these ones are NEXT LEVEL! They’re by McGuire, which means they come with a pretty high price tag that I surely would not normally be paying for! The ones I’m wearing were originally $268, but I got them on sale with an additional 40% off , making them $50! It was meant to be.

While I was putting this whole outfit together, I literally said to myself, “Am I really going to put these camo jeans on with this military jacket?” YES! I totally am because I’m going for it! Honestly, I think taking the chance paid off because I really love this outfit!
The utility trend can be construed in a lot of different ways, and it might not be for everyone’s personal style. However, I think there will always be pieces out there that are more utility-inspired that you can make your own. I’m sure others would wear this military jacket differently than I would, and that’s okay — great, even!

I guess what I’m trying to get at is that you shouldn’t rely on just one source of inspiration for when you’re confused on what to wear or need inspiration for a particular trend. Scour around on Pinterest and Instagram, or find new bloggers to follow!
Just don’t forget to make it your own! 🙂
Well, that’s all I have for ya today! WOW, I just realized it’s April 1st! Praise the universe — March was like, the longest month EVER. Let’s get spring started!!!
Until next time!
