Color Story | Bubblegum Pink + Champagne

Do you ever put on an outfit, look in the mirror and say to yourself, “Wow. OK. This is really, really good!” I’ll be the first to admit that yes, I totally do that, and yes, I did it when I put on this outfit. The seamless blend of the bubblegum pink sweater with the sparkly champagne skirt makes me giddy. It’s femme, youthful, fresh — and sophisticated. This color story is my new obsession.

Since I started working in retail, I’ve come to learn that people either love or hate pleats. There’s no middle ground. I wish everyone loved pleats, but that’s just not the reality. Given, there are some pleated pieces I’ve seen that even I wouldn’t wear, but still. I think pleats are so much more versatile than people give them a chance to be.

When I’m styling, I view pleats as more of a flat pattern than a texture. I think this allows me to be more creative in what I ultimately end up deciding to pair with the pleated item. In this case, I disregarded the fact that both my sweater and skirt have pleats. In essence, it shouldn’t work — but it does! That’s the thing: trendy textures are meant to be experimented with, which is exactly what I did when I found this outfit.

I’ve had this skirt for almost three years now, so it’s basically vintage Anthropologie at this point. I still love it though. It’s such a good midi-length on my long legs. Although I have a safety pin in the back because it doesn’t fit anymore, I see no reason to get rid of it. Some items are just too good to give away!

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I love cropped sweaters. I used to hate crops, but since I came to love high-rise jeans, crops are my new jam. Anyways, the bubble effect of this sweater’s sleeves and the pleating make for a timeless and subtle piece for my wardrobe. This sweater can also be worn right at the edge of the shoulders, or off the shoulder.

With off the shoulder blouses or sweaters, I sometimes feel like I can’t be as exuberant as I usually am. I’m THAT person who talks with my hands, and basically both my arms, now that I think about it. So I choose to wear this sweater at the edge of my shoulders so I have more range of motion, but do whatever feels right for you! Okay, you get it moving on.

My challenge to you this week is to find your new favorite color palette! Play around with different patterns, textures and colors in your closet and see what fits your personal style. In my opinion, nothing is ever too weird to wear, and the weirder and quirkier — the better! Start styling, my friends!

Thanks for reading, lovely people of the internet! I’ll be back again next week with another new post for you! 🙂

Until next time!
