Happy Wednesday! I hope you’re all doing amazing and that your week is off to a great start! I’m back on the blog today to share another Hometown Spotlight blog post with you all. If you missed my first post for this series, I’ll give you a little background on what inspired me to write these posts!
As a Clevelander, born-and-raised, I have so much pride for my hometown. When I moved away for a new job, I really came to realize how much I missed home and all of the awesome things it has to offer. Cleveland is a city of dreamers and doers. There are so many local companies and creators in town, which led me to think: Why don’t I use this platform to showcase some of the amazing Cleveland-area companies that I’ve come to love?
So, let’s get started with this month’s Hometown Spotlight on skincare company OY-L.
I came across OY-L on Instagram after seeing that many of my Cleveland-based followers were using their products. As I’ve mentioned before on the blog, I’m a skincare fanatic, so when I discovered that the products were made in Akron, which is just south of Cleveland, AND they are made with zero chemicals, I knew I needed to give it a try.
As someone who has struggled with troubled skin for most of my life, I think it’s so important to know what’s in the skincare products that you’re using; in addition to knowing what the purpose of each ingredient is. I’m THAT person who finds enjoyment reading the ingredients of different products — I’m a weirdo, I know!
My first order from OY-L included four products that I knew would compliment the skincare products that I was currently using. Those four products were the Face Cream, Cleansing Powder, Lip Balm and Hydrating Facial Mist. Now, I’m going to share my mini reviews for each of these products and why they are now permanent members of my skincare routine!
OY-L Face Cream
I don’t think I’ve ever used a face cream that was more luxurious than this one! I have sensitive skin that gets dry patches every now and again. This face cream has helped to diminish those random bouts of dryness that I tend to get — something that no other face cream has been able to do for me!
I would compare the consistency of this cream to a mousse, and it goes such a long way. I only need a dime-sized amount to provide my skin with the hydration it needs. I use this every single night and I’ve noticed a difference in the texture and smoothness of my skin.
OY-L Cleansing Powder
I bought this cleansing powder because it contains Vitamin C powder, which is more stable than Vitamin C in liquid form. Vitamin C is awesome for brightening the skin and helping to lighten any acne scars.
A little bit of this cleansing powder goes a long way, so I’m not even 1/4 of the way through the bottle yet! I love mixing this with a water-based cleanser at night. It acts as a super gentle exfoliator, which is a step that many of us forget to incorporate into our skincare routines! I love how gentle this cleansing powder is, and it doesn’t dry out my skin at all.
OY-L Lip Balm in Lemon Mint
This lip balm is my new fave, and that says a lot coming from someone who is literally obsessed with putting on lip balm. I’m not even kidding when I say that every single bag, compartment and zippered pocket of mine has a lip balm in it. It’s better to be prepared than not have one at all!
Okay, back on track, this lip balm contains Manuka 20+. If you don’t know, Manuka honey is the cream of the crop when it comes to honey. It’s only derived from Manuka trees, which are found in New Zealand and Australia. Manuka honey is different from the generic honey you see at grocery stores in that it’s much more potent, meaning it helps heal quicker.
Not only do I use this lip balm on my lips or the cracks I get on my knuckles from eczema, but I’ve also started to use it underneath my eyes. I know that sounds really weird, but hear me out! Manuka honey is an ingredient I’ve found to be in many anti-aging products, plus this lip balm contains Vitamin E, which is amazing for helping the skin retain moisture. Hello, smooth under-eye area! I might be onto something here, people. Lip balm for under-eye moisture!
OY-L Hydrating Mist
I chose this free little sample bottle as an add-on with my last order from OY-L and I’m already obsessed. I spritz this facial mist on three times a day: once in the morning after applying my makeup, after lunch or in the middle of the day, and at night as the last step of my skincare routine.
This mist brightens my skin where it needs it, and it gives it a natural dewy look that I love! Plus — it contains aloe vera, which we all know our skin loves! This facial mist gets me really excited because I know that when I spritz it on, I’m not spritzing a bunch of unknown chemicals onto my face. It’s also paraben free and smells so fresh, likely due to the combination of lavender oil and prickly pear oil!
