How to Wear Black + White in the Summer

Hello again, friends! Monday is here and I’m excited to start another week! I hope that everyone enjoyed their weekend and that it was full of good vibes and positivity! Besides working at my part-time job on Saturday, I took Sunday to explore somewhere that I’d never been before. Although it really didn’t live up to my expectations, it was still fun to get outside in the sunshine.

I don’t know about you guys and where you’re living, but here in the South, it’s already HOT. I used all capital letters for extra emphasis because it truly is hotter than I’ve ever experienced! It’s not even the official beginning of summer yet and I already know that  extremely hot and humid weather isn’t for me!

I’ve had to put my jean-wearing tendencies on the back burner because it has been too hot to wear them, which makes me kind of sad! Jeans are my fave! Now that I’m realizing  Ohio summers are nowhere near South Carolina summers on the spectrum of heat, I’ve had to reconfigure my wardrobe.

Dresses have been my go-to these past couple weeks, and for good reason! Although most of my dresses are pink (hehe, it’s my favorite clothing color), this dress is the exception. It’s from Victoria Beckham’s  clothing line for Target, which debuted last summer. I wish I could say that I’ve worn it more than I have! But, I’ll definitely be wearing this little number more often this summer.

As I’ve mentioned before, I really don’t wear much black, but when I saw this dress, I knew I couldn’t pass it up! I love the daisy pattern because of how summery it is, and the flutter skirt at the bottom is so fun and unexpected! The scalloped turtleneck is another detail of this dress that I love.

Now, when it comes to summer style, I think there’s an expectation that your wardrobe will be all colorful. But, it doesn’t have to be that way, friends! You can totally still wear black and white in the summer — you just have to be creative in the ways that you do it! Finding this dress was like a needle in a haystack, but I’ve found a couple options below for you!

Cutout Midi Dress

Midnight Flower Wrap Dress

Black Embroidered Dress

The key to styling black and white in the summer is to look for pieces that are made of lightweight fabrics, so viscose or cotton — anything like that! I personally would avoid black blouses, but that’s just because I feel like my upper body gets much hotter than my legs do! The easiest integration of this color scheme into your summer wardrobe would definitely be a dress or maxi skirt with a black and white pattern.

Well, that’s all I have for you today! I’m excited to see how you all style black and white pieces within your summer wardrobe!

Until next time!
