Hello there, friends, and Happy Monday! I can’t believe that another week is beginning. I guess that’s how post-grad life goes — the weekend flies by so much quicker! As I write this blog post, I’m sitting outside in weather that’s a little too steamy for my taste, but hey, I’m trying to make the most of summer.
I’m so happy to be back on the blog to share three new blog posts with you all this week! Yay! I genuinely enjoy writing these posts because I can showcase them on this platform for all of you to enjoy, and that makes me very happy!
Anyways, when I was thinking about what to write for today’s post, I did what I normally do to gather inspiration — pull random items out of my closet and hope that I can make them work together. This brings me to today’s post!
I’ve always been one to push the boundaries of what’s expected, especially when it comes to fashion. Of course I could have worn this popsicle dress with a jean jacket, but that’s so boring! Instead, I grabbed this oversized denim sweater and thought to myself, “Ya know, this might actually be really cool …” And I think that it is!
I love the 2-for-1 deal that this outfit offers. Summer is one of my most difficult seasons for styling, purely because I wish I could wear pants and sweaters all the time. It’s the Cleveland in me! Since moving down South where the humidity is basically at 100% every day, I’ve had to improvise with my style.
One thing I’ve noticed since moving down here is that it’s absolutely necessary to bring a sweater with you everywhere. I know what you’re thinking. If it’s so hot, why do you need a sweater? Well, because it’s so hot, everyone cranks their AC waaaaaay down. So, anytime that you go inside, whether it be somewhere to shop, work or eat, you’ll freeze your butt off.
This oversized denim sweater is how I solve that debacle. It’s surprisingly more lightweight than it appears, which is why I love wearing it on a chilly summer night. To me, it’s a trendy sweatshirt, which I’m all for! I honestly haven’t seen anything like it since I bought it four years ago at Urban Outfitters. I know, I’m a clothes hoarder LOL.
But you know I preach quality over quantity! I can justify spending $50 on a sweater that I know will last me four years or longer. It’s why I shop at the stores that I do. They promise quality and have truly delivered for me!
I definitely think that the sweater-over-dress combo has a sort of California vibe to it because of how laid-back, yet fashion-forward it is. You can replicate this outfit using any dress in your wardrobe that has more of a shift shape to it. I’ve found that flowy or fit-and-flare dresses require a more structured or fitted sweater, but they still look cool!
Of course I had to top off this look with my new purse from Anthropologie. I’m so picky when it comes to buying new bags, which is why this was the first one I’ve purchased in over a year. I really wanted something that was simple, easy and chic, and this bag is the definition of that! For those wondering, it also comes in black, red, white and mint green!
Well, that’s all I have for ya today! I’ll be back on the blog this Wednesday to share my Monthly Intentions for June!
Until next time!
