Prepping My Wardrobe for Summer

Happy Friday! Wow, this week totally flew by! But, I’m excited for the weekend and the weeks ahead! Today on the blog, I wanted to share an outfit that I’m loving at the moment. May is the perfect time to bust out all those dresses, sandals and hats that you stowed away for winter, and that’s exactly what I’m doing.

I bought this dress back in December, so you know I’ve really been waiting awhile for the right moment to wear it! Summer is basically here in South Carolina, and being as this is my first time spending the whole season down here, I don’t know what to expect from the weather.

Everyone keeps telling me that there’s no way I’ll be wearing pants every single day, but you all know me — I love pants! Jeans, colored pants, floral patterned pants, all of them! But, if the weather heats up a little too much for my liking, I know that I’ll be living in lightweight dresses, like this one.

Something that I love to maintain in my wardrobe is a mix of high-end and low-end items. Dresses, for example, are something that I like to have variety. When I’m shopping for new dresses, if I find one that I like, I buy it. But, there are also times where depending on the store and if I find something I like, I’ll tell myself not to spend over a set amount of money.

I don’t really know how to explain it, but it’s all about using your best judgment. Usually what I’ll do is think about the price and compare it to how often I think I’ll wear the item. This dress was on mega sale for $15 from the LOFT outlet, so I got really lucky!

I love the floral pattern on it because it reminds me of one of those paint-by-numbers kits. LOFT didn’t have my exact size in this dress, so I did end up buying it a size bigger, which is why I chose to wear a top over it. Today, I decided to tie up my chambray shirt because it’s light and airy, making it the perfect addition to an outfit for a humid summer day.

You guys know that I love mixing my patterns, and I was pumped when I had the idea to pair my checkered Vans with this dress. The collective outfit looked cooler than I expected! My best piece of advice about mixing patterns? If you’re confident in yourself and the outfit that you paired together, no one will ever question why you paired what you did. I’m telling you this from experience!

My Panama hat will be back in action this summer, and I hope to find another in a different shade to complement my wardrobe. I’ve had this hat for almost two years now, and it’s amazing.Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters are my favorite places to look for hats because they have such a vast selection to choose from.
