Happy Monday, friends! I hope that your day is starting off with lots of good vibes, sunshine and yummy food! Today on the blog, I’m sharing how I’m styling my dress from Gal Meets Glam Collection. As a fashion blogger, one of the first women that I looked up to in this industry was Julia Engel. She was one of the original pioneers for the blogging movement, and she has always been someone that I was inspired by.
Earlier this year, Julia announced that she would be creating her own line of dresses. I’m not even exaggerating when I say that I added the release date of her first collection to my calendar FOUR months before it launched. A little cray, I know, but I was so excited to see what kinds of dresses she would curate for the first month’s collection.
The collection was released at the end of April, and I woke up early to make sure that I was ready to order the moment that it launched. I’d received the Lookbook for the collection in my email the night before, so I had a decent idea of which dresses I liked. I ended up choosing the Colleen dress because of the off-the-shoulder detail and the buttons down the front. It was so feminine and reminiscent of 1950s style, which I loved because you really don’t see dresses like that nowadays. When I got my dress in the mail, I knew that I needed to wear it to work the next day. It was just too good to wait another day to wear it!
One of the things that I love about the blogging industry is the community that it can provide if you’re willing to take part. There are so many incredible people that I have met from my blog, and even more that I look up to. I think it’s so important to support those within your own little community, because your community supports you, too. This brings me to the topic of creative collaboration over competition.
This has been a trend across social media platforms, and for good reason. I’ve never been a super competitive person — it’s just not in my nature, ya know? As creatives, it can be hard not to compare yourself and what you create to other people. I totally get that, but so much more can be accomplished when we learn to support each other! As much as you may think that you can do everything on your own, it’s not possible. Humans are not built to be self-sustainable — that’s the truth! We need others to help us learn, flourish and love!
We can grow to know so much about ourselves and what we’re trying to create by collaborating with other people. Whether that be supporting something that someone else has created, or helping someone when they’re struggling with something — collaboration matters! So, I challenge you to reach out to someone who inspires you and grow a community of your own!
