Can you believe that the starting mark for fall is just one week away?! I feel like the 4th of July was just yesterday! I’ve decided that now is the time to get my sweaters and jackets out from storage and bring them back to the front of my closet.
For today’s post, I’m focusing on three of my favorite jackets for fall, and showing you how simple each is to integrate into your closet.

The first jacket I’ll be showcasing is the always-classic leather jacket. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had one in my closet for the occasional time that I needed one to complete a look. I used to wear leather jackets more often, but for some reason they kind of fell to the wayside in my closet.
I think that what happened was once I realized that there were other jackets out there besides leather ones, I immediately went on a jacket-buying-spree. Clearly I was overwhelmed by the options because I probably have eight different jackets that I could wear in the fall.
ANYWAYS, despite the fact that my wardrobe is now infiltrated by all of these new jacket styles and fits, I’ve never gotten rid of my leather jacket. I knew that the time would come when I would wear it again. And I was right!
One of my favorite things about a leather jacket is the instant edge that it adds to any outfit you’re already wearing. For this particular look, pairing the leather jacket over the more feminine floral tunic created a seamless balance.
I think that it’s also important to note that not all leather jackets have to be super edgy in their structure. This particular one by Takara is simple, with no notched collar. If you’re not looking for the motorcycle-leather-jacket-structure with the notched collar, there are other options on the market, like this one!
A leather jacket is definitely a statement piece, which is why I totally understand why some of you may be hesitant to add one into your closet. But, believe me when I tell you that once you find one outfit you love wearing a leather jacket with, you’ll find even more outfits as you gain style confidence while wearing it!
To style a leather jacket: Anything goes, depending on what you want your end-game-look to be. A graphic tee, floral top, or chunky knit sweater will tone down the edge of the jacket. Pair with any darker pair of jeans or colored pant.
Next up is the sherpa baseball jacket! When I found this jacket, I knew that I had to have it! I bought this during that overwhelmed-by-all-the-other-jackets period of time that I mentioned above.
I would say that this particular jacket introduced me to the world of faux fur. The style of it was bold, but nowhere near as in-your-face faux fur like this one that I have. I think that this style is awesome for anyone looking to add a little bit of luxe to their outerwear game without being too flashy.
As you can see, I maintained the base of my outfit (tunic + jeans) in order to show how all of the jackets I’m showcasing can coordinate with an outfit. In comparison to the leather jacket above, you can see that there’s an obvious difference in the way that you perceive this look with the sherpa jacket.
The outfit has now become a little more ethereal and feminine, but still maintaining that visible edge with the detailing on the sleeves and collar of the jacket. When I first purchased this one, I was worried about how the sherpa exterior would hold up to the outdoor elements. But, this jacket has proven to be just as resilient as I had hoped.
It’s been through the sideways rain and mountains of snow in the Northeast, and if that’s not the true test of fabric resilience, I don’t know what is!
To style a sherpa baseball jacket: Avoid any bulky sweaters or busy textures, and opt for soft patterns and smooth finishes, like a blouse or tunic. Bottoms can range from denim to utility pants, or even an a-line skirt to spice it up.
The last jacket that I’ll be showcasing today is this army green cropped jacket with a sherpa collar. I purchased this jacket on a whim because it was on sale at Urban Outfitters for $15. Although I wasn’t entirely sure how to wear it at first, I decided that it was a bargain I couldn’t pass up!
My favorite thing about this jacket is that it’s cropped and lined, so it’s still warm enough to wear in brisk temperatures. The collar is also adjustable to your liking — by zipping it up, you can fold the collar further inward so there’s just a peep of it showing.
For me, I love wearing it unzipped with the sherpa collar fully exposed. This style takes a simple army green jacket and turns it up ten notches by the addition of faux fur.
I would definitely say that this particular jacket is one of those special occasion pieces in my closet. I love wearing it, but when the temperature drops below 40 degrees, this jacket goes right back in my closet. That’s the only downside to a cropped jacket for fall — your timeline of usage is definitely limited!
