Travel Guide | A Day in Charleston

Hello, hello, helloooo!

I apologize for my absence from the blog! I was on vacation in Charleston and decided it was the perfect time for a much-needed break from technology!

Anyways, I wanted to share with all of you my tips for traveling to the Holy City. This was my first time going there in probably 14 years, so needless to say it was like I had never been there in the first place! Technically I stayed in the Folly Beach-area, which is only 20 minutes away from Charleston, so it was the perfect blend of city and beach!

Although I went into Charleston several times throughout the week that I was there, I figured that it would be much easier to compile all of my experiences into one day of fun in Charleston.

Breakfast: Lost Dog Cafe

Beginning with the most important meal of the day, this little cafe tucked under the willow trees in Folly Beach is an absolute gem. They offer seating indoors and outdoors, and they also have different specials each day!

I chose the French toast special, which was topped with strawberries, whipped cream and roasted walnuts. It was absolutely amazing! I’m not even kidding when I say that I devoured it in less than five minutes!

Lost Dog Cafe also offers a variety of different drinks, like their iced latte or iced mocha latte, which I thought was super tasty and just strong enough. I’m really picky about breakfast food, but this place went above and beyond any expectations I had.

If you’re staying in Charleston, or you’re from the area, Lost Dog Cafe is 100% worth the drive because it is hands-down some of the tastiest breakfast I’ve ever eaten!

Afternoon Fun: Charleston City Market & Shopping on King Street

I do remember going to the Charleston City Market when I was younger, but it is on such a larger scale today. I highly recommend that everyone goes, even if it’s just to look!

The market is open from 9:30 am – 6 pm, and there are soooooo many vendors selling all kinds of goodies, like food, jewelry, and even home decor! One of my favorite jewelry designers, JK Designs, sells her necklaces and rings there. Definitely check her out the next time that you stop by!

A vendor in the market that’s also worth a stop is At Home, which is located within the air-conditioned hall of the market. They sell tons of quirky, one-of-a-kind gifts. I found an awesome 100-year-old dictionary page that has the Eiffel Tower painted on it. It’s seriously so incredible!

I can’t possibly forget about my absolute favorite stop at the Charleston City Market — Old Whaling Co. This is a local company that makes homemade soaps right in Charleston. The scents are absolutely amazing and they make my skin super soft after using. I bought the following scents: Bergamot & Grapefruit, Bamboo & Teak,  and Seaweed & Sea Salt.

King Street – Charleston

Shopping on King Street is a must if you’re going to Charleston! My best advice for shopping here is to plan out what stores you want to go to ahead of time. There are tons of places to shop on King Street alone, as well as on side streets off of King Street, so come prepared!

As a huge fan of Urban Outfitters, I knew that I had to see the one located here because their stores always tend to be located in the coolest buildings. This particular Urban is within the Garden Theatre, which was opened in 1918 and was converted into a retail space. How cool is that!?

Another store that I loved was Half Moon Outfitters, which is essentially an outdoor apparel store. I got this awesome furry sweater from there that I am so excited to wear this fall!

After shopping, take the long way around town and go take a peek at Rainbow Row! It’s just as amazing in person as all those photos you’ve seen on social media.

Dinner: Charleston Crab House

I’m a huge fan of seafood, so whenever I’m at a seafood restaurant, I always try to get one of the specials on their menu. On this particular occasion, I chose the Grilled Seafood Trio.

This particular dish included the catch of the day, shrimp and sea scallops. Talk about DELICIOUS!

Following a scrumptious meal at the Charleston Crab House, take some time to walk around the city and see all that it has to offer! The architecture and outdoor spaces in this city are breathtaking. Just don’t forget to snap a few pictures to reminisce on!

Night Adventure: Ghost & Graveyard Tour with Bulldog Tours

After going on a tour with this particular company, I was super impressed at how knowledgeable and fun their guides were! Not only do they have a variety of ghost tours that go to different locations across the city, but they also offer food and general-history tours.

The cool thing about their tours is that they’re 1.5 hours long, which is the perfect amount of time for exploring the supernatural in Charleston! Now, I won’t say that I’m an absolute believer in the paranormal — purely because I’ve never personally experienced anything. However, I do believe in spirits and energies, so I was honestly pretty pumped about this tour.

Despite the fact that I didn’t have any supernatural experiences on the tour, it was awesome to hear the guide’s information on all of the different stops. I would definitely recommend booking a tour through Bulldog Tours because of how informative they are! If you’re looking for a ghost tour in particular, they offer the one that I went on, a Haunted Tour of the Charleston Jail, a Ghost & Dungeon Tour, and a bunch of others!

Being as Charleston is one of the oldest cities in America, I’m sure that you would enjoy going on one of these tours as much as I did!
