Breaking out the Culottes

Hello hello lovely readers!

Back at it again with another new post this week, focused on my favorite trend of the moment: Culottes.

Outfit Details:

Culottes (Sisley), Crop Top (H&M, similar here), Agate Necklace (Black Market Minerals, similar here), Crossbody Bag (Kate Spade, similar here), and Platform Converse (Urban Outfitters, similar here)

If you’re sitting here reading this, chances are you’re probably like “What the heck is a culotte?!

My thoughts exactly.

To put it into simpler terms, culottes is just a fancy word for wide-leg cropped pants. Remember back in the early 2000s when they were the must-have item of the moment? I had a pair and I literally wore them everywhere — to a wedding (dressy!), for a school field trip (casual!), and more.

They were the comfiest pants on the planet!

I still stand by that claim today because these culottes are just about as comfortable as a super-soft pair of pajama pants. If you could wear pajamas in the real world and be taken seriously, why wouldn’t ya wear them!?

Anyways, I found these culottes at a store called Sisley while I was galavanting across Italy. I was immediately drawn to the dusty pink color of the pants, and then I saw the pattern and I was sold. They’re like nothing I’ve seen in any stores in the U.S.

At first I was a little bit hesitant about buying the pants because I had no idea what I was going to wear with them. But, I bought them anyway, and once I got back from Italy, I went through my closet in search of something that could possibly work with the pants. I quickly came to the realization that I could honestly wear any style of top with them.

Initially I  was worried that I would have to wear something super constricting on the top because the bottoms have so much volume, but that was absolutely not the case!

That has to be my favorite thing about culottes: not only do they change up your usual pant game, but you can wear them with any top in your current wardrobe.

I of course had to whip out my platform Converse high tops for this outfit. I didn’t realize until I was writing this post that these babies are a pretty hot commodity today! When I bought them back in 2013, I had no idea that they were going to be a trend item, or that everyone who saw me in them would ask where they could get a pair.

I miraculously found them at one of the Urban Outfitters in NYC while on a quick trip to the city, but I never saw them anywhere after that trip! It was almost as if I bought my pair and then they immediately sold out after that. I’m not even kidding when I say that I paid $10 for them. They are by far one of my most-prized items in my closet!

Well, that’s all I’ve got for ya this week! Keep smilin’, dance around to some cool jams — check out the playlist at the top of this post — and keep spreadin’ those stylishly good vibes!

Thanks a bunch for reading!
