Helloooo lovely people!

I hope that you’re all having a great start to the week! What’s different about this blog post … THERE IS NO SNOW! YIPPEE! As I write this, I’m reflecting on the fact that my past three blog posts have had photos taken in several inches of snow. This slightly warmer weather is a much-needed break from the polar vortex we’ve been experiencing in the past three months.

Truthfully, this whole 60-degrees-and-breezy thing that we’re having right now is LITERALLY AMAZING. Can you tell that I’m re-energized by the weather finally being nice?

I’m sure some of you are wondering why I named this blog post what I did. Well, I’m optimistic that winter will be warmer and more pleasant in the coming weeks, so just roll with me on this optimism train. Now, when it comes to the outfit that I chose for today’s blog post, I have to say that it’s definitely moved itself onto my FAVORITE OUTFITS list.

Anyways, when I was getting ready this morning, I got to thinking … my personal style is much less about buying new clothes and much more about making the clothes that I currently have last longer. Don’t get me wrong, I love buying new clothes, shoes, purses, etc — but I’m just a simple college kid, and I’m definitely not buying new clothes every week, let alone every month.

I’ve had people ask me if I shop all the time because they never see me wear the same thing. Yes, I do have a lot of clothes, I will openly admit to that, but no, I don’t shop often. The biggest thing about my wardrobe is that I save up to buy items that I know I can make last for years to come.

Gone are the days of buying a ton clothes from fast-fashion stores, and in is saving up for a few key items from stores like Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters or Nordstrom Rack. If I can preach about anything in regards to personal style, let it be this.

Having style is not about going out every week and buying all of the latest trends. It’s just not! Honestly, I rarely ever buy trendy items. I just buy what I like, and if that item happens to be trendy, then so be it.

In today’s blog post, I wanted to focus on something a little bit different than usual:

Tips on how to make the clothes within your current wardrobe last longer.

Everyone can benefit by learning a few tips and tricks for increasing the livelihood of items within their wardrobe, so keep on readin’ to learn more!

  1. Don’t feel the need to excessively wash items after every single time you wear them. It’s not necessary!

I can truthfully say that I have noticed a significant difference in the amount of time that items spend in my wardrobe purely from not washing them as often. You can go ahead and think it’s gross, but seriously if you ask anyone from an older generation, they will tell you that you shouldn’t be washing your clothes as often as you are. Plain and simple.

When it comes to fine gauge sweaters, which would be like the sweater tank featured in today’s post, you should NOT be washing it every time you wear it. Do you ever notice how some of your favorite sweaters or shirts start to pill, meaning they get those tiny little balls of fabric all over them?

Yeah, that’s from 1.) the sweater rubbing up against other fabrics and 2.) From allowing the sweater to rub up against other fabrics when you toss it in the washer every week. Save your favorite sweaters from that terrible fate and don’t wash them as often!

I’m sure some of you are thinking, “Why is she telling me how to wash my clothes?” I’m telling you these things because in the long run they will make your clothes last longer, and you’ll save money by not having to purchase new clothes over and over again.

This tip definitely builds off of the last one, but I just wanted to further clarify its impact. Pants especially do not need to be washed anywhere near as much as a top usually does, so use your best judgment as to how often you wash them.

I’ve had to retire so many pairs of pants purely because the color faded so much that I couldn’t even distinguish what color they were anymore. Do yourself a favor and extend the life of your jeans or pants by up to a year by not washing them as often.

3.) Invest in a magic eraser and white shoe polish!

This last tip is pretty self explanatory, but I still wanted to include it in here! I used to be really hesitant about buying white shoes, which is a completely justified thing to worry about. White shoes get dirty so easily, but that shouldn’t be a reason for you not to buy them if you really love them.

When you’re looking to buy a pair of white shoes, I would advise you to purchase a pair that is leather because that means easier upkeep. Suede and canvas are just really tough fabrics to work with, so leather is the way to go.

By cleaning your white leather shoes with a magic eraser and touching them up with a little white shoe polish every now and again, you can make them a staple shoe in your wardrobe for years to come! I’ve had this particular pair of shoes that I’m wearing in today’s post for almost a year now, and I’ve worn them in the rain and mud and they still look brand new!

Just goes to show that my tips work! 🙂

Stylishly Good Vibes’ Bit of Advice for this week:

Don’t let negative energy dull your spirit!

If I’ve learned anything in my time at college, it’s that sometimes people are really negative and you can’t do anything to change that. Everyone is experiencing things within their own lives, but the most important thing is to remain positive and understand that there is always a brighter side to things!

I’ve been trying my hardest to post more on my Instagram and on my blog this semester, so you’ll have to bear with me as I figure out my schedule! I love being able to blog and post content about things that I’m interested in, and I am already planning some really great things for Stylishly Good Vibes in the next few months, so stay tuned for that!

Well, that’s all I’ve got for you this week! I can’t wait to keep posting and sharing my content with all of you! Keep doin’ you, everyone!
