Oh hey … how ya doin’, 2017!?

I look forward to this day every single year because it’s the perfect time to reflect on the ups and downs of the past year to see how far you’ve come. January 1 should be the time that we transform our lifestyles to be our happiest, healthiest, best versions of ourselves!

2016, wow … uhh … you were somethin’ alright! Like any year, 2016 brought many amazing things, as well as some not so great things. But, that culmination of positive and negative is what prompts us to grow and be better versions of ourselves each and every year.

Now, before we jump into 2017, I always think it’s important to spend time thinking about the previous year. I was reading something last week about how someone had chosen a word to represent their version of 2016. This got me thinking, what is the word I would use to represent 2016?

Honestly, it wasn’t until I started writing this post that I realized what my word for 2016 is.

Enrichment.

By definition, enrichment means to make finer in quality or to add greater value or significance to something.

In many ways, 2016 was the year of enrichment for me.

I made a point to go to the library more often and try my hardest to find time to read each day. I enriched my life by listening to new kinds of music and spreading that music through my Spotify. The experience of creating an Instagram for my blog and coming up with more ideas for a new website also enriched my life in 2016.

Even though those are little things that I did each day, they enriched my life with knowledge about the world around me.

So, with all of that in mind, what is your word for 2016?

Onto New Year’s Resolutions, I’ve never been the kind of person who can keep one. Sometimes I think that when you look at a resolution, you feel as if you have to make it this truly difficult thing to achieve, or something that is really going to push you out of your comfort zone. But, that’s not what a resolution has to be about!

According to Merriam-Webster, a resolution, or to resolve means: “to find an answer to, to make clear or understandable.” A resolution is meant to bring clarity into your life, and act as a stepping stone toward a short or long term goal that you hold close to your heart.

To find your 2017 resolution, make a list of all of the positive things that you experienced in 2016. Try your hardest to list as many as you can remember.

From that list that you’ve made, put a star next to the ones that have brought you the most happiness or that you were the most proud of in the past year.

These will be the building blocks for your resolutions of 2017!

Personally, whenever I think about what my resolutions for the upcoming year will be, I don’t think about them as a way to alter my life. I think of them as the goals that I want to achieve in the upcoming year.

So, grab your pens and pencils and start writing those resolutions!

Whatever you choose to resolve, or make a goal of for 2017, make sure to always maintain a positive outlook! Things always get better, and looking on the bright side is a whole lot easier than you may think!
