We all have that one item of clothing in our closet that we immediately gravitate to. Whether it’s that dingy sweatshirt that you’ve worn since middle school, or an old concert tee that still reeks of sweat and cigarette smoke. We’ve all got one. For me, this item is the Tulipa Dress.

Although I just bought this dress, it’s quickly made its place in my wardrobe as one of my favorites. It’s very much a ‘me’ dress.

When it comes to shopping, I never go in with a plan of what I’m looking for. I let the clothes inspire me as I make my way through the store. I think it’s a lot more fun to go shopping without a list. That way, if you don’t find what you’re looking for, you won’t be disappointed. Cheesy, I know. But you should seriously try it.

Before I made the decision to buy this dress, I was struggling with the idea of if I actually needed it and if I would really wear it as much as I was thinking that I would. It was then that another shopper gave me some of the best shopping advice that I’ve ever received.

When you’re struggling to decide if you should buy an item or not, ask yourself,

“Would I want to meet someone for the first time while I was wearing this item(s)?”

That advice was the rationale that I used when I purchased the Tulipa dress. No, I didn’t particularly need to buy it, but the idea of wearing it to meet someone for the first time created this indescribable excitement.

I just knew I had to have it.

Personal style for me isn’t about the clothes that I wear. It’s so much more than that. Fashion has always been my dominant form of self expression. The clothes that I wear aren’t worn because they’re brand name, or because I think they’ll make me look cool.

I wear what I wear because it makes me happy.

With summer nearly halfway over, I’m feeling super nostalgic over a lot of different things.  This was the first summer where I actually pushed myself out of my comfort zone, doing things that I’ve never done, going places I’ve never been, even trying foods that I’ve never dared to try. Although I got lost 80% of the time, and came to the realization that I hate shrimp spring rolls, the experience was totally worth it.

Being as this is the last summer that I’ll spend at home before I officially become a college graduated adult (ahhhh!), I’m taking full advantage of the time that I have left.

So I challenge you.

Whether this is just another summer spent at home or at school, make it one for the books! Do things that you never thought you could. Train for a marathon or try to eat a gallon of ice cream in one sitting, whatever floats your boat. Personally, I’m all for the ice cream. 🙂

Enjoy the rest of the summer sun!!!
