Welcome Back to Stylishly Good Vibes!

This week’s post is all about the denim dress. Gone are the days when Britney Spears and JT rocking the Canadian tuxedo is considered socially acceptable. In, are light denim accent pieces. I don’t know about you but I hate being overheated in the summer. Heavy denim is the absolute worst during this time of year. The second that you get hot, the denim gets stiff and uncomfortable, leading to an influx of sweat and panic. Or maybe that’s just me?

Anyways, with summer just around the corner, what better item to shop for than a chambray denim dress? I love the multidimensional feel of this specific dress, not to mention how light the fabric is. I hadn’t strategically planned out that I was going to buy a denim dress, it just happened to catch my eye on a rack filled with excessively patterned dresses.

That’s the thing about personal style — it’s not about planning out every single item that you want or need to buy on a shopping haul. I’m not one to plan things. Let me rephrase that, I never plan anything. Honestly, I think it’s better to go into a store with no set objective and come out with things you actually love and are excited to incorporate into your wardrobe. I know that people will tell you otherwise, but you know yourself better than any ‘shopping expert,’ so you do you!

Accessory #1:

When it comes to the art of accessorizing, this hat is honestly a lifesaver, especially in the summer. When my hair is anything but tame, I grab this Panama hat and hide my frizzy hair from onlookers. It’s all about finding one that fits your head and face shape. I used to be so adamant about buying hats because I felt as if my face was too round to pull one off. But, after receiving the constant encouragement by my coworkers, I bought this hat and I couldn’t be happier.

Now when it comes to purchasing a hat, try to restrain yourself from buying one online. I know how tempting it can be to buy one from Urban Outfitters or ASOS, but at least try to find one in a store first. You could end up hating the hat once your order arrives, so save yourself the hassle and try hats on in person.

Accessory #2:

This zigzag baseball jacket has been a staple item in my closet for five years. FIVE YEARS. If you listen to any of the advice that I dish out, let it be this. Invest in cool pieces that will consistently reflect your personal style. I often go through phases with my clothes. Sometimes, I won’t even touch an item in my closet and it will just sit there for months. It’s not because I no longer like it, it’s just because I’m not currently inspired by it. But that’s the thing, inspiration comes and goes, so don’t toss away an expensive piece just because you don’t think you’ll wear it tomorrow.

The idea that I mentioned above is so important to realize when you start to think that your closet is overflowing with too many clothes. Prioritize what you really think you are going to wear within the next year.

Think to yourself:

“Can I style this in an entirely different way from how I have in the past?”

“Is this something I am going to regret donating in the next six months?”

“Is there something on the market that’s better than this item?”

If you can answer these questions with confidence and no hesitation, then you have your answer. However, if you begin to question yourself, that’s when you know it’s not right, at least not at this moment.

Back to the subject of this blog post, the denim dress. I know what you’re probably thinking…a denim dress…in the summer…seriously, what are you thinking?!?

I’m being completely serious when I say that this dress is, and will be your summer go-to once you find the one that fits your style. When I purchased this dress, I had no idea how I was going to where it, let alone when. But once I brought it home, I realized that the denim dress is virtually just a pair of jeans.

It goes with everything.

This dress could easily be worn with a statement necklace, or a myriad of your favorite token necklaces. That’s the amazing thing about this particular dress, you really can’t go wrong with how you accessorize it. Pair it with a darker denim jacket, or a patterned one like mine.

You really can’t go wrong.

On a side note, I’m sure you’re wondering why this particular location was chosen for this photoshoot. Here comes story time!

Well, actually, not really it’s a quick little anecdote.

Anyways,

Two years ago, while I was scrolling through the endless depths of Instagram, I stumbled upon this picture of a VW bug that was buried halfway in the grass. I knew that it was around my neck of the woods, but I had no way of knowing where it was. It’s not like you can just Google search, “VW bug in grass,” (I tried, and failed). So, basically I daydreamed about this vintage bug in the grass for two whole years.

It wasn’t until I mentioned it to my photographer, Andrew, that he started to ask around and see if anyone knew what I was talking about. Low and behold, someone knew it was a real thing and that I wasn’t just making it up! After driving about 15 minutes down a  country road, we found it! It was literally on the side of the road, so we did as any logical person would do. We parked in the grass and jumped out. Honestly, this was one of the happiest moments that I have ever experienced. After two years, we had finally found the VW bug!

Moral of the story: Find weird, quirky, or random things that excite you. It’s all about going out there and adventuring out of your comfort zone. Just have FUN!

So, before summer and its heat and humidity come into the picture, get yourself a chambray denim dress. You never know what weirdly cool thing you may stumble upon while wearing it. Just don’t forget to spice it up with your own personal flair.

Until next time!
