Welcome back to Stylishly Good Vibes!

Now, I know what you’re thinking… what’s a ‘groutfit‘ and why am I talking about it in today’s post. According to Urban Dictionary, a “somewhat” trustworthy source of random information for our generation, a groutfit is defined as, “an all grey outfit worn by college students who don’t care.” Well, I don’t necessarily agree with that, but at least you get the gist.

To answer the second question, I’m talking about groutfit’s today because they are coming back in style, seriously. Because of this, I think it’s important to touch base on the right way to concoct such a monotonous ensemble.

We all remember the groutfits of the nineties. Big, heather grey sweatshirts paired with matching sweatpants were all the rage. Thankfully, the look has been stylishly upgraded for this generation.

I’m not saying that you should stop wearing that grey sweatshirt/sweatpant combo that you’re probably wearing as you’re reading this. I’m saying that there are super stylish ways to jazz up this potentially disastrous trend.

Style icons from Gwen Stefani to Nicole Richie have been seen sporting the ‘groutfit’, but they too have embraced this trend in their own way. You can find more inspiration for your own groutfit here.

I found this Free People tunic on sale for $20, and it’s honestly one of the most comfortable shirts that I own. I love the asymmetrical cut because it’s flattering and can be paired with any bottom.

Keeping up with the groufit trend, I paired this dark grey tunic with a very light, distressed pair of grey denim. This is my version of the modern day groutfit. There’s no reason that this trend should get as much negative press as it does because it can be stylish and sophisticated if it’s styled properly.

I’ve never been one to dabble in the monochromatic trend. My style is very much a melange of different things, and I love subtle bursts of color. The groutfit is definitely out of the comfort zone of my own personal style, which is why I kept my ensemble relatively subtle.

Although I kept the main components of this outfit grey, I think that the neutral fur coat really brings the look together and gives it a little bit less monotony. The gloves and purse only add a little bit of value to the outfit.

Whether you choose to utilize the color grey throughout the entire look, or choose to break up the monotonous look with a neutral color or something a little brighter, a stylish groufit is possible!

I’ve found that people tend to make fun of groufits because they’ve never really seen them well executed. But, I hope that with this week’s post and through scouring the internet, you can find some inspiration of your own.

Random blurb: I just want to take a moment to talk about the importance of finding hobbies outside of the realm of your major. I started this blog for me, not for anyone else. It’s a way for me to express my personal style in hopes that I inspire others to embrace theirs as well. I’m not trying to impress a future employer, or hoping that a job will just plop in front of me because I’m a blogger. I’m a blogger because it’s fun and allows me to express my creativity.

Basically what I’m trying to say is that you should go out and find things that you love to do and take the time to do them! There is always enough time in the day to do the things that you love. So go out there and find your own passion!
